David E. Carter, age 88, of Atlanta, Texas, went to be with the Lord Sunday, April 16, 2017, at his residence surrounded by family.

David was born December 8, 1928 in Woodville, Mississippi, to Archer and Mattie Carter. He was retired from International Paper, was a member of First Baptist Church, Atlanta, Texas, he loved spending time with family, hunting and fishing. He was preceded in death by his sister, Donetta Carter; two brothers, Edward Carter and Jesse Carter and his parents.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ruth R. Carter of Atlanta, Texas; four daughters, Sandra Berry and husband Duke of Rock Springs, Wyoming, Beth Hogan and husband Tim of Atlanta, Texas, Annette O’Day and husband Rob of Stafford, Virginia, Ruth Ellen Nugent and husband Matthew of Atlanta, Texas; eight grandchildren, Erika Berry, Clint Crowder, Colt Berry, Halley Knuth, Carter Hogan, Olivia O’Day, Zach Nugent, Ellis O’Day; eight great-grandchildren and a number of other relatives.

Graveside services will be 2:00 pm, Thursday, April 20, 2017 in Carter Cemetery, Wilkinson, County, Mississippi under the direction of Hanner Funeral Service with Duke Berry officiating.

Visitation will be Tuesday, April 18, 2017 from 6 pm to 8 pm at Hanner Funeral Service, Atlanta, Texas.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, www.cff.org or to the American Cancer Society, www.cancer.org
