We are very proud of our family here at Hanner Funeral Service. Not only has it been a family business for four generations, but our staff has also formed a family of its own. We are nurturing and caring people who work together to help our families honor their loved ones and begin the healing process. We have years of experience caring for families, who come to us knowing that we are the leaders in our profession. Read on to learn more about our staff.

John Michael Hanner was born and raised in Atlanta, Texas. He attended Stephen F. Austin University, where he received his Bachelor's degree in Business and Finance. Mike has been back in Atlanta working for Hanner Funeral Service since 1992. Mike has other business interests, including the restaurant industry, but his true passion lies in the funeral business. As the fourth generation of Hanners, Mike grew up surrounded by the love, compassion, and integrity that make the Hanner Funeral Service name.

Mike is an active member of the community. He is a member of the Atlanta Chamber, supports the Lion's Club, and works with local veterans and senior citizens. He believes in staying current and moving forward in the funeral industry and therefore is a member of and supports Selected Independent Funeral Homes, the Texas Funeral Directors Association, and the National Funeral Directors Association. He is a Christian and an active member of First United Methodist Church in Atlanta. He has a wife, Kerri, and two children, Annemarie Grace and Cole Michael. In Mike's spare time, he enjoys running and working out. He loves spending time behind the grill and hanging out with his family, and is an avid duck and big game hunter.

Blake Lively was born in El Dorado, Arkansas. He accepted an athletic scholarship to play football at Tyler Junior College and Ouachita Baptist University. He earned a degree from Tyler Junior College in 2009. In the Spring of 2010 Blake began his lifelong calling in quest of his goal and enrolled in Mortuary School at the University of Arkansas in Hope, and graduated with a degree in Mortuary Science. Blake joined the Hanner Funeral Service staff in June of 2010. He has more than three years' experience in serving others in the funeral service industry. Blake is an active member of the Tyler Junior College Alumni Association and the National Corvette Museum. Blake is married to Kirbie, and they have one daughter Isabella. Blake, Kirbie, and Bella are members of First Baptist Church, Texarkana. In his spare time, Blake enjoys running, working out, playing basketball, and spending time with his family.

Bill Griffin was born and reared in Atlanta, Texas. Bill is active in the Atlanta community. He has been a member of the Atlanta Area Rotary club for a number of years and is a past chairman of the Atlanta Memorial Hospital Foundation. He was drawn to the funeral service out of a desire to be of service to families in their time of need. He is married to the former Rosalie Wolf. He enjoys traveling and spending time at their lake house.

Floyd was born in Cass County and has lived in Atlanta all his life. Floyd graduated from Atlanta High School in 1948. Floyd worked for JBL Motors as their Sales Manager and retired in 1995. Floyd went to work for Hanner Funeral Service in 2003. His desire to work in the funeral industry was kindled by one of his special friends, Enos Presley, who was employed at Hanner Funeral Service for many years. Floyd has been married to Faye for over 61 years. They have a son and two daughters: Marshall Kirkland and his wife Tonya, Twila Howard and her husband Keith, and Sandra McCasland. They have 10 grandchildren. Floyd enjoys the outdoors, working in his garden, cutting firewood for friends and family, and has a loving and caring spirit. He and his wife are both active members of the Atlanta Church of Christ. Floyd finds great pleasure and gratification in helping those who have lost loved ones.

Virginia was born in 1948 in Bowie County, Texas. She graduated from New Boston High School in 1966 and attended nursing school in 1981. After working for Day and Zimmerman for 13 years as a bay supervisor, she asked that God give her a more meaningful job in a Christian environment. She feels she was blessed in 1996 when she was hired at Hanner Funeral Service. Virginia has attended Trinity Assembly of God in Corley, Texas, since the age of 5. She is a loving mother and grandmother, a devoted Christian, and a warm and friendly face at Hanner Funeral Service.

Gary was born in 1947 in Atlanta, Texas, and has lived in Atlanta for most of his life. He has been married to Gayle Washington Stewart for more than 36 years. They have two married children: daughter Lana Paige and husband Brian, and son David and wife Jennifer. They have three granddaughters: Ryleigh Paige and twins Emma and Olivia Stewart. Gary and Gayle are members of the First Baptist Church in Atlanta. They have been active in the youth and nursery for over 30 years. In his spare time, Gary likes to spend time with his family. He loves to camp and travel the Texas Hill Country. Gary believes the funeral service is a calling. Gary is a valued staff member at Hanner Funeral Service.

Debbie has been employed with Hanner Funeral Service since 2001. She is a dedicated member of the Hanner Funeral Service office staff with a true calling in working with the public and families in need. She finds the most rewarding part of her job is assisting these families during their grief. Debbie is a proud and devoted mom of three. She is a member of First United Methodist Church in Atlanta. In her spare time Debbie enjoys baking, decorating, and working outdoors.

Arvine Smith, mostly known as "Jr.," began working for Hanner Funeral Service in 1975. Jr. is a hard worker, loyal, and someone you can depend on. Jr. has a job description that is never-ending. He helps in many different areas. He is very giving of his time and energy. He has a wife, Sheila, and four children.

Will Alan, also known as "Big," joined Hanner Funeral Service in 1985. Big is a hard worker and always has a smile to offer. He is a loyal employee and enjoys his job. He is married to his wife, Mary, and has two children.

Susan joined the Hanner team in 2009 after relocating to Atlanta with her husband Eddie. She is excellent at multitasking. Susan and Eddie have two children and two grandsons. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends.

Eva began working at Hanner Funeral Service after retirement and has been an employee for 19 years. You can find Eva sitting with families during their visitation or answering the phones. She finds enjoyment in meeting and helping families during their difficult time and feels blessed and inspired through her job. Eva has been a member of First Baptist Church in Atlanta for 54 years. She has two children, three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. In her spare time, Eva enjoys playing with her great-grandchildren.

Kathy has worked on and off for Hanner Funeral Service for several years. She began as a secretary and currently works part-time, answering the phones and sitting with families during their visitation. She enjoys serving and comforting families during their time of need. She feels it is a wonderful job and that it is a blessing to be a part of Hanner Funeral Service. Kathy has one child, Abbie. She is a member of First Baptist Church and has been a Sunday school teacher for 21 years. She enjoys shopping and cooking in her spare time.

Betty was born and raised in Cass County and graduated from McLeod High School. She worked for First United Methodist as the church secretary for over eight years and retired in 1998. She did not have plans to go back into the work area, but began at Hanner Funeral Service on a temporary basis, and became a regular part-time employee in 2009. Betty is a member of First United Methodist Church, where she serves as a Greeter and Community Outreach person. She is a member of New Gleaners Life Class at the church. Betty has three daughters, one grandson, and one great-grandson. Her hobbies are gardening, cooking, and visiting with friends and family. She enjoys the beauty of God's creation and likes to spend time outdoors.

Harriet joined Hanner Funeral Service office staff in 1990. She worked under Randy Hanner for over 20 years and feels privileged to have done so. She says it is a blessing to be able to meet so many wonderful people through her job and she enjoys visiting with each one. Harriet is married, and has one daughter and two granddaughters who live in the Houston area. She enjoys spending her free time visiting with them.

James is a Navy veteran from the Viet Nam era, which began his life in public service. He served 34½ years in the United States Postal Service. His is an ordained Baptist Minister of 28 years, having served as a bi-vocational pastor, in the state park ministry, and at life events for family and friends. He felt the call to minister to families at a time of their greatest loss, and Hanner Funeral Service and divine providence came together to provide that opportunity. He is married to Evaughn, his wife of 44 years, and together they have been blessed with two children, their spouses, and four grandchildren. James enjoys family times and outdoor activities. He believes that hope, life, and every good gift is from God above. His says that Faith, Family, and Service provide opportunities to be thankful.

Scott Carter began in the funeral profession with Texarkana Funeral Home at 19 years old. Being given the opportunity to serve others in their time of need was truly a calling. He began school at the Dallas Institute of Funeral Service in 1990 and graduated in March of 1991. He attended Texarkana public schools and was a graduate of Arkansas High School. His hobbies include camping, fishing, and spending time with his two sons, 16-year-old Mason and 13-year-old Clayton. For the past 22 years, he has devoted himself tirelessly to making sure that the needs of the families he serves are taken care of, and he hopes to do so for many years to come at Hanner Funeral Service.

Kerri moved from Dallas to the Atlanta area in 1997 when she married her husband, Mike Hanner. She attended the University of North Texas and graduated from Texas A&M University in Texarkana with a Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in English and Journalism. She taught for eight years and made the decision to stay home when she had her first child. She enjoys working with Mike on advertising and various projects for the funeral home. She has been married for over 14 years and feels blessed to have one daughter, Annemarie, and one son, Cole Michael. She has been a member of First United Methodist Church for over 15 years and has been involved with the Children's Ministry though teaching Sunday school and directing Children's Choir. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking and reading good novels. Her greatest joy is spending time with her family.
